 NAPOWRIMO: 30 POEMS IN 30 DAYS

APRIl FOOLS DAY

They gave me coffee,
but they added salt, instead of sugar.
They gave me water,
but instead it was vinegar.
They gave me dip and crackers,
but the dip was dog food.
They said it was a hoax,
but people started to get sick
They asked me to continue to work,
but people around me started dying
They furlough me,
but now I don't have any money.
They said the landlord would give me a break,
but now he's kicking me out.
They said to go to the food bank,
but they ran out of food.
They said to stay at home under lockdown,
but they kicked me out.
They said the shelter would take me,
but the shelter closed up.
They said to keep to myself out there,
but it was all an April Fool's nightmare come true.

They said, they said, they said so many things...
and now I am dead!
